About
Epiglottitis is a rapidly progressive, life-threatening pediatric airway emergency characterized by acute inflammation and swelling of the epiglottis and surrounding supraglottic structures. Epiglottitis is a critical diagnosis that requires immediate recognition and decisive nursing action. Even minimal swelling in the supraglottic region can result in sudden and complete airway obstruction, particularly in young children with narrow airways. This course equips nurses with the knowledge and clinical judgment necessary to identify early warning signs and intervene safely without precipitating airway collapse. Emphasis is placed on rapid assessment, airway protection, and avoidance of harmful interventions.
