Croup - Laryngotracheobronchitis

  • 28 Days
  • 18 Steps

About

Croup, clinically known as laryngotracheobronchitis, is a common pediatric upper airway condition characterized by inflammation and edema of the larynx, trachea, and bronchi. It most frequently affects children between six months and three years of age and often presents with a distinctive barking cough and inspiratory stridor. Although many cases are mild and self-limiting, croup can rapidly progress to significant airway obstruction, making timely nursing assessment and intervention essential. This course provides pediatric nurses with an in-depth understanding of the anatomic and physiologic factors that contribute to airway compromise in young children. Emphasis is placed on recognizing severity, differentiating croup from other airway emergencies, and initiating appropriate supportive and emergency interventions.
